Three boaters were rescued from Swedish waters after their small vessel collided with a cruise ship, subsequently sinking.

According to local news sources, the small boat rammed into a Viking Line cruiser, carrying 1,827 passengers onboard, on its way to Finland. Eyewitness say foggy conditions was the likely cause of the collision.

The trio’s rescue was assisted by locals from the island of Maro, who rushed to the scene with their own boats and assisted the emergency services to recover the three from the water.

Sweden’s Marine Police has launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.

The rescued three were treated for shock afterwards, and the Viking cruise resumed its course shortly after the accident.
