Seakeeper Launches New Professional Division

Published Oct 2, 2013 3:46 PM by The Maritime Executive

To serve growing worldwide demand for gyro stabilization, Seakeeper has established its new Professional Division, which will formally launch at the International WorkBoat Show. With it, Seakeeper offers a dedicated team and focused product offerings for commercial, military, workboat, offshore, research and patrol markets.

"In just a few short years on the market, we've seen significant success in the commercial/military sectors including crew transport, offshore supply, wind farm support, surveying operations and even the US Navy. Owners and operators are seeing the competitive advantage gyros create and realizing increased operational profitability through more days on the water, better working conditions and reduced fuel consumption," said Seakeeper COO John Kermet.

Driving Seakeeper's initiatives for the Professional Division are new team members Carl Wegener, Commercial Sales Director – Americas and Sean Hatherley, International Commercial Sales Director – APAC & EMEA. The company plans further infrastructure development around this division with dedicated product development, project management and installation support.

Kermet added, "Our gyros can reduce resonant vessel roll by as much as 90% in a variety of sea conditions. This significantly reduces crew fatigue and enhances safety, which are two areas that directly impact crew retention and operational efficiency. For patrol and military craft, it is especially important for everyone on board to be ready for the mission at all times."

Wegener comes to Seakeeper with more than 25 years of commercial marine industry experience, most recently as VP of strategic planning with Signal International. He also previously held management positions with Kvichak Marine Industries and Austal USA.

"I've been deeply involved in the workboat world, and fully understand the challenges operators face in maintaining both vessel and crew productivity in dynamic sea conditions. Seakeeper is a game changer. Its multitude of applications, from fishing boats to offshore support vessels to patrol craft, present clear operational advantages to our customers," said Wegener.

Hatherley joins Seakeeper after serving as VP of sales with Intellian Technologies. He holds more than 20 years of marine industry sales experience, including executive positions with Navico and Raymarine.

"The technology behind Seakeeper gyros is impressive. These are very powerful stabilization devices that are completely internal, low maintenance, actively controlled, and require little power—all in a compact and lightweight footprint. I look forward to our continued product evolution and delivering competitive solutions for vessels worldwide," said Hatherley.

Seakeeper actively controlled gyro stabilization systems reduce resonant vessel roll whether the craft is at rest, slow speed, or underway. Suitable for new builds or refits, various models fit vessels from 35' to over 200' in either single or multi-unit configurations.
