Ship Equip Introduces SEVSAT Compact

Satellite Communications Engineered To Fit the Needs and Budgets of Gulf Vessels

Leading maritime broadband provider Ship Equip introduces SEVSATTM Compact – a new VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) satellite communications system developed specifically to meet the needs of vessels operating in the Gulf of Mexico region.

SEVSAT COMPACT delivers the high speed connectivity of VSAT at a budget price based on a lightweight and compact 60 cm VSAT antenna. No download fees, no connect fees, just a no limits satellite broadband solution. Like Ship Equip’s proven SEVSAT (Ship Equip VSAT) system, this compact solution provides Offshore Support Vessels (OSVs), commercial fishing boats, cargo carriers and other vessels with reliable high speed connection. Vessels working throughout the Gulf of Mexico benefit from a “no limits” broadband solution delivering high-speed Internet, email and IP voice communications at an affordable monthly cost.

“We’re confident that SEVSAT Compact is an ideal fit for customers who operate in the important Gulf market,” said Ship Equip Chief Executive Officer Ivar Nesset. “SEVSAT Compact fits their vessels, fits their needs, and because of its predictable low monthly cost, it fits their budgets. This latest development demonstrates Ship Equip’s commitment to developing the solutions that best meet regional maritime industry demands around the world,” added Mr. Nesset.

“For the last few years we have seen that our SEVSAT customers’ communication volumes increase rapidly” CSO Gilles A. Gillesen says. Prior to getting SEVSAT these vessels would only use approximately a hundred Megabytes per month. Two years ago, the average monthly usage was around 9 Gigabytes per month. Early this year, that figure had doubled to 19.7 Gigabytes monthly per vessel, and that’s a lot when you consider that most of our customers are on the popular 128Kb/128Kb connection plan,” he said.
“Seeing our close to 1000 SEVSAT customers communicate in such high volume tells us that there are many vessels out there which, given the chance, would communicate in the same way. With SEVSAT Compact we are hoping to bring high speed communications and high data volumes to new customer groups, vessels that have until now doubted whether they would need a high speed link or found the entry level cost and commitment too high,” Mr. Gillesen added.

SEVSAT Compact delivers Ku-band satellite coverage for the entire Gulf of Mexico region (see map).

SEVSAT Compact Gulf of Mexico Coverage
Ship Equip’s 60m antenna sells for $29,000. SEVSAT Compact includes the below decks equipment and delivers 256/128kbps bandwidth with one phone line for bridge and crew calling.
Broadband service is $950 per month with a minimum 12-month contract, and includes SLA Premium, equipment insurance and MySEVSATTM with Vessel Tracker. MySEVSAT is Ship Equip’s exclusive password-protected customer web portal that helps vessel owners manage their communications and their fleets. MySEVSAT allows land offices to monitor bandwidth usage aboard their vessels online and track vessel movement anywhere in the world on Google Earth maps with location, speed and heading.

SEVSAT Compact is backed by Ship Equip’s unparalleled technical support and 24/7 customer service, made even stronger by the recent opening of new Network Operations Center (NOC) facilities in Houston and Singapore. These Ship Equip owned and staffed facilities provide technical support and regional expertise for the company’s main NOC in Alesund, Norway.
