The GMAA Intensifies Continued Education On Arbitration

The new board establishes the GMAA Academy
At this year’s members’ meeting, the German Maritime Arbitration Association (GMAA) resolved to put even more emphasis on the international continued education of German arbitrators and on the internal support of young members. For this purpose, the GMAA is planning a varied programme under the name “GMAA Academy”, which the board presented to the members in detail. In the framework of this programme there will be regular lectures and workshops on maritime law and procedural law topics which are presented in a practice-relevant manner. At the same time, the GMAA is aiming to cooperate with Germanischer Lloyd, with the idea being that a seminar module on arbitration throughout the world is integrated into Germanischer Lloyd’s GL Academy. Finally, the GMAA intends to set up a special forum for young arbitrators under the name “GMAA 40”. Non-members will also be invited to all events.
A new GMAA board was elected at the members’ meeting. The lawyers Jan Wölper (chair), Dr. Christoph Hasche (secretary and deputy chair), Esther Mallach (treasurer) and, as representative of the shipping companies, Falk Fischer (deputy chair) now head the arbitration association. Dr. Friedrich Strube and Dieter Griebel, who over many years suc-cessfully led the GMAA in becoming an internationally recognised organisation, have retired from the activities of the board.
On the occasion of the meeting, the GMAA’s new website was presented. It provides a considerable amount of helpful information on arbitration for the maritime sector (www.gmaa.de).
