NES Wins Contracts for Estonian Port Authority

Port of Tallinn ferry

Norwegian Electric Systems announced the successful contract signing of almost new orders worth approx. 95 Million Norwegian Kroners.

Norwegian Electric Systems does most of its business in the Offshore Support Vessel and Self Propelled Jack-Up Vessel markets but, with a reduction in the price of oil, it was important for Norwegian Electric Systems to diversify into other markets less vulnerable to the price of oil.

Last year, Norwegian Electric Systems sold solutions to military naval vessels, fishing vessels and now, most recently, we are to deliver electrical propulsion solutions to state-of-the-art car ferries. The ferries have been designed by the innovative Naval Architects and Engineers of LMG Marin. These amazing ferries are to be owned and operated by the Port of Tallinn. Previously, Norwegian Electric Systems only experience in the Ferry market was the upgrading of a Norwegian ferry “Olav Dun”, two years ago, much to the satisfaction of its owners.

A total of four ferries have been ordered. Two to be built by the Polish yard Remontowa and the other two by the Turkish yard Sefine. Both yards are renowned for the quality of the vessels they produce.

“This is a triple first for us in Norwegian Electric Systems. These will be our first new build car ferries, the first time we have sold to Sefine shipyard and the first time we have ever worked with Port of Tallinn. The competition, from Germany and the USA, to supply the electric propulsion systems for these vessels has been fierce but Norwegian Electric Systems was able to offer the best technical solution along with highly competitive commercial terms. We look forward to working with our new partners in delivering car ferries, which will serve the people of Estonia well for many years to come.” Says Fridtjof Erichsen, Sales Manager for Norwegian Electric Systems.
