Captain Jessica Tyson Appointed HRAS Trustee

Human Rights at Sea is very pleased to announce the appointment of Captain Jessica Tyson as a trustee to the charity.

Tyson first went to sea in 1988 in the Merchant Navy progressing through the ranks and sailing as master. She has sailed on a wide variety of vessels, including oil and gas tankers, passenger vessels, tugs, super yachts, small boats, yachts and paddle steamers over her 18 years at sea. With a change in personal circumstances she is now working as a marine consultant surveyor at C F Spencer & Co Ltd based near Bristol, as well as being an authorized Pilot for the Port of Bridgwater.

She is an active member of Nautilus International, (Maritime Professionals Union) being a member of the council and the chair for the Women’s Forum. She is also a member of WISTA and the Nautical Institute and Energy Institute. Her passion for the sea and all things marine remains undiminished.

Human Rights at Sea, CEO, David Hammond said: “Along with the other Trustees, we warmly welcome Jessica to the charity as our newest trustee and as a Master Mariner. We were delighted that she accepted the appointment and her well-known industry experience will serve the charity extremely well in developing and strengthening industry links, as well as providing practical advice over the forthcoming years.”

Captain Tyson said: “I am keen to promote the Merchant Navy and the life that is there. It is important that all facets of that life are protected by professionalism, integrity and fair play. I am happy to come on board with Human Rights at Sea and I hope provide what experience I can to them so that life at sea is well-recognized and that the rights of those serving at sea are equally recognized as being as important as those ashore.”
