Oceanfile Adds Vetting Enhancements to Its Credentials

Published Jul 28, 2014 1:54 PM by The Maritime Executive

Only two months since its last major upgrade, Oceanfile Marine continues to enhance its tanker management, vetting/inspection and risk management programme with the release of Version 5.

The key Version 4 enhancements added off-line self-inspection tools for SIRE and CDI Navigation Audits for use by Masters and Superintendents. Oceanfile states that early user feedback is reporting significant improvements of the observational skills among masters and superintendents who are using Oceanfile’s tools that compare internal results directly with SIRE/CDI reports and third party navigational audits.

Q88 and other popular pre-chartering questionnaire tools have also been warmly welcomed, offering at no cost, alternatives to expensive commercial alternatives or in-house systems.

With Version 5, Oceanfile focuses on the chartering side of the business by including radical risk ratings that display immediate risk rating values. The system however delivers a great deal more than just a series of stars.  Risk rating results display both weightings and values of each of the components used to calculate the result. The assessor thereby is informed exactly as to how the risk value has been calculated and is not expected to simply accept the result.

The Operators’ Edition of Version 5 continues to refine the existing tools and add more important features.  These include:

•    Dashboard to save and recall frequently used charts
•    Non-Conformities Manager
•    Display and Report of “Due By” date and “Overdue” flags for corrective actions relating to Observations.
•    Support for basic terminal data and profiles
•    Enhanced Response Management Module
•    Export functions to Word, PDF, Excel, etc., across a wide range of data
•    Retain/recall/export full history of each operator comment relating to Observations responses to ensure consistency and effectiveness of corrective/preventative actions
•    Copy response to Clipboard for paste to SIRE Comments
•    Enhanced Cost of Inspections analysis

Captain George Bogris, QA Manager at Athens based owner, TMS Tankers, has used Oceanfile since 2012 and said

“Our use of Oceanfile to manage all aspects of vetting – responding to observations for example, has delivered a consistency that ensures that we apply corrective and preventative actions that do eradicate shortcomings. The Oceanfile Officer Matrix Manager alone, is saving us a huge amount of time.  Each new upgrade provides more valuable new tools that continue to assist our drive for excellence and zero incidents.”

Oceanfile is keen to point out that each of the new Version 5, and all future enhancements are provided free of charge to Oceanfile subscribers. For tanker operators, subscription rates can be as low as €1 per vessel per day.
