Unitor BWTS Ballast Water Treatment System (Unitor BWTS) launch tour visits the United States
Following the Type Approval, issued by the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) under the authority of the South African Department of Transport in August 2010, Wilhelmsen Ships Equipment conducted a range of unique Unitor BWTS seminars across the world.
In October and November launch seminars were hosted in Long Beach, Seattle and San Antonio. A final seminar will take place on December 7th in Houston.
“The high level participants from various maritime industries including cruise, tanker, shipyards, and state environmental commissions confirm the interest in ballast water management systems within the market,” says Peter Stockley, President, Wilhelmsen Ships Equipment. “The Unitor BWTS launch seminars is a great opportunity for us to demonstrate the features and benefits of our system, and also further learn about our customer’s needs,” continues Stockley.
The customer engagement at the seminars, which took place amongst other in the historical maritime locations MS Queen Mary and the Edgewater Hotel, was exceptional and shows the high knowledge level of the upcoming ratification.
The Type Approved Unitor BWTS is a fully inline system that needs to treat ballast water on intake only. With a very small footprint and low power consumption, the system is a flexible and economical solution for both newbuilds and retrofits.
The system combines the use of cavitation, sterilisation and filtration to provide a system equally efficient in all water conditions and is effective across the full salinity range and regardless of suspended solid content.
The system sizes range from 100 to 4000m3/h per ballast pump. Systems can be installed on parallel ballast pumps to reach even greater total ballast capacities. With a maximum reactor length of just 3.8 meters and the possibility of being oriented horizontally or in a vertical loop, it is highly suited to retrofitting. The requirement for electric power is low at just 45 kW for even the largest system with capacity of 4000m3/h.
The Unitor BWTS technology is provided by the South African company Resource Ballast Technology (RBT). The system is produced, marketed and sold globally by Wilhelmsen Ships Equipment. With the support of our global network, Unitor BWTS is a safe choice for the lifetime of the system.
