Scotland's largest independent catering firm, Trinity International Services, has announced the promotion of operations boss Dean Burgess to managing director.

The offshore specialist, which boosted its turnover to more than £14million in 2009, is targeting continued global growth as activity in the energy sector continues to increase following the downturn.

Mr Burgess, 59, has extensive global experience having led contracting and operations for a variety of major operators and other service sector leaders in Baku, Azerbaijan; Kazakhstan, and Equatorial Guinea as well as the UK.

Having stepped-up to managing director he will continue to work alongside Trinity chairman Stuart C MacBride, and will lead its activities across the Gulf of Mexico and South America, Canada, Africa, the Middle East and South East Asia, as well as the North Sea.

Recipient of the Queen's Award for Enterprise for international trade, awarded in 2003 and 2005, more than 80% of Trinity International Services' business originates in world markets.

Chairman, Stuart MacBride, says: "Dean's expertise spans the industry and the globe – since his arrival here in 2005, his contribution to the business has been significant and this promotion recognizes the value and experience he has brought.

"Not long after joining, he managed our work on the Bonga project in Nigeria, playing a key role in what was one of the largest vessel construction contracts in exploration and production history. Dean has consistently delivered the kind of standard-setting results we use as our benchmark.

"I am delighted to confirm Dean's appointment as managing director, and look forward to seeing his positive influence bring further reward to Trinity – we certainly consider having him at the head of our operations team as a major asset to our work."

In addition to Mr Burgess' promotion, Trinity has also appointed experienced catering manager Peter Lewis to its management team. The 42-year-old has spent more than half of his 15-year catering career in the oil and gas industry.

Trinity has approximately 215 staff working on and offshore. It has teams operating in international waters around the globe with clients including Stena, Bluewater and Maersk.

Dean Burgess says: "At Trinity International Services I have been offered the opportunity to fully lead the company's activities, something which has always been an ambition, and I am really very pleased to be able to take on the role with both hands.

"We have been able to strengthen our position in the global marketplace in spite of the downturn, and our dedication to the job in hand has been absolutely fundamental to that. Maintaining the highest standards at every level of our business has helped us to widen our client base while retaining our long-standing customers.

"While costs continue to increase, the expansion of our work in the global marketplace is driving us forward and, with continued investment in our staff and procedures, we believe that our growth potential is significant."

A former Royal Navy officer, Mr Burgess has previously worked with OSCO and Aramark.

As well as providing hotel services to oil industry vessels and installations, Trinity supplies full design and outfitting support to owners and builders throughout construction and commissioning of the hotel service areas.

Trinity has offices in Norway, France, Algeria, Newfoundland, Trinidad, Singapore, Vietnam and the Philippines in addition to its headquarters at Bon Accord Square, Aberdeen.
