Sixty Tons of Wood Falls Overboard off Suffolk Coast

The 79-meter Norwegian cargo ship SALLY, was en-route from Sweden to the UK when it lost 60 tons of timber in high seas and gale force winds. The wooden planks fell overboard about 55 miles east of Lowestoft.

The local Coast Guard has warned that the planks cause a threat to smaller vessels as many of the planks are floating on the surface or just below. The debris should not impact the normally larger vessels in the shipping lanes.

The Yarmouth Coast Guard and the Dutch Coast Guard are working together, conducting aerial surveillance for large patches of wood and coordinating the clean up and recovery of the lost cargo.
