Early Friday morning, the HMS GLOUCESTER was sent to assist a law enforcement team from Cape Verde in a narcotics operation in the mid-Atlantic.

The Maritime Analysis & Operations Centre based in Lisbon coordinated the operation.

The Tortuga, a yacht registered in Florida was suspected of drug smuggling and was intercepted by law enforcement and taken to Cape Verde where drugs were found hidden in the rudder.

The HMS Gloucester acted as a base for the law enforcement team and a firm threat to the smugglers. The cocaine found was estimated to have street value of £4 million (6,188,800.00 USD).
