Somali Pirates Grab Three Thai Fishing Vessels with Crew of 77

Somali pirates have seized three Thai fishing vessels with a crew of 77 on board almost 2,000 km off the coast of Somalia. It is the furthest attack offshore the country to date. While, naval forces patrol the seas and escort commercial ships transiting the coastline, the pirates have taken their piracy deeper into the Gulf of Aden.

EU’s naval anti-piracy force reported the MV PRANTALAY 11, MV PRANTALAY 12 and MV PRANTALAY 14, fishing vessels owned by Thai-based company PT Interfishery Ltd were hijacked this past weekend.

The ships were taken about 1,000 km outside the Combined Maritime Forces patrolling area.
