North Koreans May Have Sunk South Korean Navy Ship

U.S. and South Korean military officials believes a torpedo attack caused a South Korean war vessel to sink last month.

The United States believes the ship went down after an underwater blast near the hull of the ship. The torpedo itself did not make a direct hit on the South Korean ship.

South Korea supports the United States’ conclusion, reports stated.

According to reports coming out of South Korea, the American and South Korean military state in an intelligence report to South Korean President Lee Myung-bak that a North Korean submarine attacked the 1,200-ton vessel – the Cheonan – with a torpedo weighing approximately 440 pounds (200 kg).

Approximately 39 sailors were killed in the attack.

Meanwhile, Pyongyang has denied any involvement in the incident.
