Navy Capt. Relieved of Duties Over Improper Behavior With Crew

The commander of a U.S. Navy assault ship aiding flood relief efforts off the coast of Pakistan was relieved of his duties Sunday for allegedly having improper relationships with crew members.

Capt. David A. Schnell, commanding officer of the USS PELELIU, was reassigned after the investigation revealed he had an inappropriate relationship with more than one crew member.

Schnell who assumed command of the ship in September 2009, has been temporarily reassigned to administrative duties. The investigation came after several allegation of improper behavior towards crew members were reported.
