Featured MarEx Print Article: Maritime Security Plan Revalidation

Published Jan 17, 2011 4:05 PM by The Maritime Executive

From our American Salvage Association edition (October 2008), Ronald Thomason of TranSystems asks, “Where Are You and Your Organization in the Ongoing Compliance Process?”

This week’s featured archive MarEx print article is taken from our October edition, which also features the leaders of the American Salvage Association on the cover. Follow along as Ron Thomason, Assistant Vice President - Maritime: Security Division of TranSystems, leads you through the in’s and outs of the ISPS revalidation process. Thomason explains, “The ISPS Code mandates that the Contracting Governments within whose territory a port facility is located may issue an appropriate SoCPF that is valid for the period specified by the Contracting Government, but not exceeding five years. Likewise, Section 102, §70102(b)(3) of the U.S. MTSA states that “the Secretary shall update each vulnerability assessment conducted under this section at least every five (5) years.” For many port facilities this means that they are approaching the five-year deadline of July 1, 2009, if not sooner, for revalidation of their Port Facility Security Plans.” But, there’s more to it than just that.
