Published Jan 10, 2011 11:13 AM by The Maritime Executive

Acting Deputy Maritime Administrator Elizabeth Megginson is a featured speaker at the second annual Women on the Water conference, taking place starting today through November 8, 2008 at the California Maritime Academy, Vallejo, Calif. Members of the media are invited to attend to cover the conference and to arrange interviews with Megginson on a variety of maritime issues.

The conference will bring together midshipmen with some of the most successful women in the maritime industry to discuss current issues affecting women and the maritime industry. Topics on a variety of issues include environmental changes, human factors (e.g. fatigue, health, and criminalization), industry trends, emerging employment opportunities and regulatory changes.

The Maritime Administration, which Megginson represents, is a major sponsor for the event. It operates the National Defense Reserve Fleet at Suisun Bay and the Ready Reserve Force ships at Alameda. The Maritime Administration has also championed the greater use of U.S. waterways, to relieve congestion in the transportation system, to save fuel, and to protect the environment. More information on the conference, including a complete agenda, is available on the Maritime Administration web site: www.marad.dot.gov.
