Danish Ferry Sinks Following Collision in German Port

Published May 4, 2012 11:05 AM by The Maritime Executive

Police reports claim that two ferries have collided in a German Baltic Sea port, but no passengers or crew members have been hurt.

Officials state that the 625-foot German ferry Nils Holgersson was returning from Sweden with 63 passengers onboard, when it struck another ship upon arrival in the port.

The other ferry involved in the accident was the 560-foot Danish vessel, Urd (pictured in thumb image). It suffered a hole in its side while being loaded at the port. Water flooded the ferry, and authorities claim it was sinking at the dock. It came to lie on its side, but there are no fuel leak reports currently.

The cause of this incident is to be investigated. No other immediate information was available.
