World's Deepest Pool Opens in Italy

Named the Y-40 Deep Joy, the world’s deepest pool is now open at the Hotel Millepini outside Venice. The pool features a 42m (138 feet) shaft – deep enough to fit a 13-storey building. It was designed by architect Emanuele Boaretto, and it is expected to attract scuba enthusiasts and freedivers.

The pool is filled with 4.3 million liters (1.1 million gallons) of thermal water from local springs and contains underwater caves designed to help train scuba divers to safely access natural caves at sea. A suspended transparent viewing tunnel allows spectators to watch the divers in action. Beginners are welcome and can enjoy supervised diving.

The pool's creators hope it will transform the region into an international diving center.
