Scrubber Sales Accelerate

Despite the level of confidentiality regarding sales, the Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems Association (EGCSA) estimates there are now some 300 (member and non-member) exhaust cleaning gas systems installed or on order, with Carnival Corporation announcing a very significant investment in May this year and that it intends to fit scrubbers to 70 vessels.

The most significant growth has been seen in the ferry/RO-RO and cruise sectors, where vessels are spending all or a substantial part of their sailing time in Emission Control Areas. The projected investment by Carnival and DFDS alone will total around US$0.5 billion. 
 
EGCSA believes that scrubber installations on other ship types will certainly continue to grow at an increased rate, as charterers realise that scrubbed vessels are more commercially attractive.
