A Japanese-flagged cargo vessel has capsized off Okinawa Port in Nakagasuku Bay, Japan after colliding with a Chinese ship, reports IHS Maritime 360.

The 1997-built Hokuei 18 suffered sustainable damage upon colliding with the Panama-flagged cargo ship Yong Sheng VII on Sunday, November 16. The freighter's bottom starboard side submerged, while the portside was protruding from water.

No injuries were reported from the incident. The five crewmembers onboard the Hokuei 18 were rescued following the sinking. However, there was a reported oil leak from the ship, prompting responders to surround it with booms.

Meanwhile, the Yong Sheng VII, operated by Weihai Yongsheng International shipping company, only suffered minor damage, and is currently moored in the Okinawa Port for inspection and repair.
