Dutch Captain Found Drunk at Helm

The Dutch captain of the 84 foot general cargo vessel Simon B was arrested last Thursday for drunken sailing in Aalborg, Denmark. Reportedly, the vessel was making a routine run carrying agricultural commodities between Denmark and Poland. Suspicions of the captain’s behavior were aroused when he sailed past his designated berth and eventually collided with the dock. The vessel only suffered slight damage, if any, but authorities were notified after the incident.

The North Jutland police arrived on scene and found the captain to be visibly intoxicated at the helm. Tests revealed he had a blood alcohol level 2.07, over ten times the allowable limit.

The captain, who is now in detention will appear in court at a yet to be disclosed time. The company has dispatched a new captain, but it is still unclear when the Simon B will be able to continue its voyage to polish port of Szczecin.
