At Least 20 Dead in Bay of Bengal Pirate Attack

The Bangladesh Navy has recovered 20 bodies of fishermen who were reportedly killed during a pirate attack. About ten more men are believed to be missing.

The bodies were found in the Bay of Bengal where pirates frequent in an effort to rob and kidnap the local fishermen.

17 corpses were found in open waters near Kutubdia Island, while three more bodies were located by a fishing vessel. All were tied up and apparently thrown overboard.

Local authorities stated that the pirates appeared to have thrown the men into the sea alive and stolen the engine, fishing nets and catch on the fishing boat.

According to the Times of India, three fishing trawlers were caught up in an attack by pirates at sea on March 25. There were reportedly 34 fishermen onboard the three vessels; there are 3 survivors known currently.
