Ships collide Off Of Macau

Ships collide eight nautical miles off Macau Outer harbor.

An oil tanker collided with a cargo ship around eight nautical miles off Macau’s Outer Harbor Ferry Terminal. No injuries were reported, but oil was leaking from the tanker.

WANG PU 35, an oil tanker registered in China was sailing from Nanjing to Zhuhai and the ASIAN PORT 26, a cargo ship registered in Cambodia transiting to Kaohsiung from Macau collided in the China’s mainland waters. However, none of the 18 crew members were injured in the accident.

The Vessel Traffic Management Centre of the Port Authority of Macau received the report about the accident and immediately dispatched the Zhuhai Search and Rescue Centre, which initiated emergency procedures were activated at the same time.

Two emergency vessels were to the accident site and it was confirmed neither ship was in immediate danger of sinking. The Zhuhai Maritime Bureau arrived later to handle the accident. The tanker was carrying 820 tons of oil products. The port side of the tanker had been damaged and oil spilled. The tanker crew lowered an oil spill boom to prevent the oil from spilling into the sea.

The Port Authority said the oil is not expected to affect Macau harbor waters. More oil spill equipment arrived on the scene to contain and remove the oil from the surrounding waters.
