Cameroon's police force has confirmed the kidnapping of two sailors in the port city of Douala, Monday.

The two sailors were kidnapped on a dredging vessel, the Vespucci, which was dredging the channel in the port of Cameroon. Reports say seven attackers armed with rocket launchers and wearing black jackets attacked on Sunday evening. The attackers hit three ships, stealing money and phones and from the third ship two crew members, a Croatian and a Filipino.

Witnesses onboard the ships say the men were speaking English.

The Luxembourg-flagged dredger, belongs to the Belgian company Jan De Nul who initially announced the kidnapping.

It is not clear whether a ransom demand has been made.
