Gooch appointed Chief Executive of the London P&I Club’s Managers, Bilbrough, in succession to Paul Hinton, who has held the post since 2002. Paul will be remaining with the Company in a consultancy role.

Ian, a qualified barrister, joined the Club’s management in 1991. He subsequently spent 5 years working in and then heading the Company’s Greek office. Appointed a Claims Director in 2003, his more recent responsibilities have been for London Club members in other parts of Europe, the Far East and the USA. Ian was appointed Deputy Chief Executive in 2008.

Ian says, “I’m honoured to accept this exciting challenge. We have a committed and energetic team here, and we look forward to building on all of Paul’s good work. I’m also delighted to confirm that Paul will be remaining involved with us on a consultancy basis. His knowledge and experience will continue to play an important part in the further strengthening of the London Club.”

Paul Hinton became a Director of Bilbrough in 1987, and was appointed Chief Executive in 2002. He has been involved in the shipping industry all his working life and has served as a member of several specialist sub-committees and working groups for the International Group of P&I Clubs.

Commenting on the appointment, John M Lyras, Chairman of the Club says, “I am grateful to Paul for his long service to the Club and for the support he has given to the Committee and to me personally. Strong co-operation between management and the Committee has been a particularly conspicuous feature of his period of office. I am glad, therefore, that Paul has agreed to support our management on a consultancy basis so that we may still benefit from his wisdom. I also look forward to continuing to work with Ian – whom I have known since his time as head of our management’s Greek office - and who has had the benefit of working so closely with Paul over the years.”
