A boat rated for only 50 passengers, but carrying more than 100 sank this week killing more than 17 people. More than 30 are still missing in the Amazon tributary where the accident occurred.
Sunday's sinking was the latest in a rash of deadly river accidents on Brazilian rivers. In March, at least three people died and six others were reported missing when a Brazilian fishing boat sank in the country's western wetlands. Three people died in February when a barge and a ferry collided on the Amazon River.
