Under Armour, the sports apparel and footwear innovator and leader in the connected fitness space, will now move select products that are produced in Asia via an all-water service to the Maryland port. Evergreen Line, which has offered its all-water Asia/ U.S. East Coast full container service continuously to Baltimore for 40 years, will carry the Under Armour cargo under an existing contract.

Customarily moving its goods from Asia via the West Coast to its distribution center in Baltimore, Under Armour is committed to Baltimore and disclosed its supply chain changes at a recent meeting with Maryland business leaders and port officials. Company officials noted that costs, congestion, transit time and a desire to support their home town Port were key criteria in the change in supply chain design.

The first direct shipment to Baltimore was offloaded this week, having been loaded in Shanghai, China, on the ITAL LIBERA. Evergreen has been providing uninterrupted direct all-water service to and from the Far East and the U. S. East Coast ports of New York, Baltimore and Charleston since commencing its full container service in July 1975. The carrier has also added the East Coast ports of Norfolk and Savannah to its service network. While today's Evergreen Line services touch all parts of the world, carrying cargo to and from Baltimore has remained constant.
