Seagulls MLC 2006 Training Package is Certified by DNV and Available Now

Consistent with its approach to make essential training easily accessible for crew members and cost-effective for ship owners, Seagull’s latest distance courses hit the mark yet again.  The company has developed and had certified three essential courses for Junior Officers and Ratings, the Senior Officers including Master, and a third for Shore-Based Personnel.

The Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 training package is now available and has been issued the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Training Course Certificate for compliance with their and other standards and adherence to the MLC 2006.

Seafarers and ship owners alike prefer courses be completed while crew are onboard and at work, though the flexibility of the Seagull training system allows these distance courses to be available onboard or ashore via online training completion.

“Onboard training means the seafarers are not only getting the theory of the course but able to put it into practice immediately in the work place. This allows familiarity with risk factors and greater retention of what they learn. It’s a practical way to learn for the crew but also beneficial to the ship owner,” said Seagull Course Coordinator Anders Brunvoll.

Seagull has been a leader in computer based training and e-learning for more than a decade, Brunvoll added, so this new course certification is one more way to bring essential training to the seafarers and ship owners at the right place at the right time. In 2010, Seagull issued 5000 certificates, of which 4700 were onboard courses. Since 2001 the company has issued approximately 33,000 certificates, all implemented as distance courses. Now these courses are available onboard as well as online which differentiates the training availability from others and provide an advantage to the customer in situations such as the MLC 2006 course package where shore-based target groups must be included.
