Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd.(MOL, President : Koichi Muto) today reported that at about 5:30 a.m. JST (00:30 local time) on Wednesday, July 28, west of the Strait of Hormuz at 26º27’ N 56º14’ E (Oman territorial waters), the VLCC M. STAR owned by MOL, suffered hull damage caused by an explosion which seemed to be an attack from external sources. Austal announces the expansion of its vessel support and maintenance presence in the Middle East following the award of a technical services contract with Saudi Arabian ferry operator The Maritime Company for Navigation (MACNA). The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) is continuing its efforts to expand and change how it regulates the environmental impact of maritime operations. One effort addresses water pollution issues while vessels are underway, while the other addresses air pollution issues when at shore.
