New MTNW Anchor Winch Monitoring System Offered

RL20VWD cable line rider

Measurement Technology Northwest is adding the new RL20VWD cable line rider to its rental fleet.

With capability to monitor tension, speed, and payout across a range of wire rope and synthetic rope diameters, the RL20VWD will enhance the existing portfolio of MTNW rental equipment for the Offshore Oil & Gas market. (8) point RL-20VWD systems are expected to be available for rental in March 2015.

“MTNW continues to invest in our rental pool,” said Kyle McKinney, Measurement Technology NW sales and marketing director, “with additional line riders and vertical lead sheaves to accommodate our clients project requirements. (4) and (8) point anchor winch monitoring systems for temporary projects can be quickly dispatched from our rental pool.”

MTNW recently mobilized a (4) point anchor winch monitoring system complete with remote displays and data acquisition system from its rental pool for the Saipem S45 R.I.Na.class Launching/Cargo Barge. Configured and calibrated for 2” wire rope and up to 150 tons of line tension, this system was able to be deployed and installed to expedite the barge’s deployment.

Commissioned by MTNW engineers in Tampico, Mexico, this system was used to support the load-out, sea fastening, transport, installation, testing, and start-up of the platform. The structure will weigh more than 15,000 tons, including the 9,000-ton main deck, 1,850-ton jacket, bridges, and substructures.

“Monitoring mooring lines helps reduce uncertainty by providing operators critical line tension, speed, and payout data during mooring operations and storm events, in addition to providing trending and historical anchor winch tension data,” said Tom Rezanka, MTNW senior vice president. “For offshore operators, this data helps to optimize inspection and maintenance schedules, while mitigating risks and decreasing the likelihood of mooring line failures.”
