Sunday, July 23, 2006
International stevedore and terminal operating company Marine Terminals Corp. celebrated the maiden voyage arrival of Star Reefers’ new M/V Star Stratos into the Port of San Diego on July 12 with a commemorative plaque, presented to vessel Captain Antonio Arriesgado, Jr., by Port Commissioner Michael Bixler. Built in Japan, the reefer carrier has the capacity for 6,000 pallets under deck and 100 containers on deck. During this maiden vessel call, MTC discharged 5,144 pallets of Australian citrus products for Riversun Export PTY, Ltd. MTC Site Manager Gary Oleson spoke about anticipated cargo volumes. “This year should be a record season with a 40 percent increase in volume,” said Oleson. “MTC has worked Australian citrus imports for several years in the Port of San Diego with the excellent cooperation and support of the local ILWU labor, the port and Harborside Refrigeration.” Headquartered in San Francisco, Marine Terminals Corp. has served the U.S. shipping community since 1931. The company handles more than seven million TEU containers annually and a full variety of general, breakbulk, and bulk commodities. MTC’s diversified services to the transportation industry are enhanced through joint ventures with major ocean carriers and affiliates in insurance, logistics, equipment and software development.
