IMSSCO Donates Marine Firefighting Equipment
IMSSCO Corporation had donated its manufactured PFA-95 marine portable foam applicator which is a SOLAS and regulatory requirement for MODU, OSVs and ships to a maritime training schools such as, American Maritime Officers-Star Center, Seafarers International Union – Piney Point and MEBA among others.
The donated firefighting equipment will enable students and “upgraders” to be PFA-95 STCW certificated thereby, fully qualified to operate the equipment already fitted on many of these type vessels and rigs.
The donations are seen as proactive and positive step in full cooperation between IMSSCO and the U.S. Maritime Administration along with private sector companies such as Moran Towing of New York, Fugro, Crowley and others. It not only further enables but improves innovative firefighting containment and fire extinguishment.
The equipment fully embraces commonality and interoperateability thereby, no retrofit into the existing fire hydrant hoses and no tools are required for the connection to each firefighting station water supply on board. The training also embraces the United State Navy Doctrine namely, the Rapid Response Team Concept taught to navy afloat surface combatant warships personnel and now being integrated into commercial offshore and deep sea training programs.
Since 1997, donations of IMSSCO’s manufactured PFA-95’s have been in use for training purposes worldwide.
Captain Ira Richman, President of IMSSCO Corporation, said, “By the OSV, MODU and deep sea ship owners and operators familiarizing themselves with the capabilities of our innovative PFA-95’s, students, upgraders, port captains and port engineers along with their crews will gain a greater understanding and practical experience of A-FFF Rapid Response for Class A and B fires on board with in these high risk maritime professions.
