Hornblower Marine Services is proud to announce the appointment of Bill Annand as Director of Marine Operations for Hawaii Superferry. Hornblower Marine Services, based in New Albany, Indiana, is contracted to operate the long-awaited passenger ferry between Honolulu and the islands of Maui and Kauai. Passenger service is scheduled to begin in August 1007.
“Bill Annand is an outstanding professional with over 25 years experience in the marine industry and business development,” says John Waggoner, Chief Executive Office of Hornblower Marine Services. “With Bill’s track record and seasoned leadership, we are highly confident that Hawaii Superferry will be a great success,” adds Waggoner.
Mr. Annand will initially manage approximately 100 crew members, including unlimited officers, and non-rated union and non0union shipboard staff. He is responsible for daily marine operations including crew management, regulatory compliance, training, budgeting, repairs and maintenance as well as record keeping. Currently Hawaii Superferry is operating a single vessel. With plans to add a second vessel in 2009, his responsibilities will expand to oversight of 200 employees and the requisite daily operations.
The first of the two Hawaii Superferry vessels is the “Alakai,” a 107-meter high-speed vessel with the capacity of 900 passengers and up to 250 vehicles including trucks and buses. The “Alakai” has a service speed of 32 knots.
Mr. Annand previously served as Director of Operations of Hornblower Marine Services-Wisconsin, Inc.and managed Lake Express, a high-speed car and passenger ferry from Milwaukee to Muskegon, Michigan. He joined the company in August 2003 as Director of Operations for a high speech car and passenger ferry operation from Rochester, New York to Toronto, Canada.
