Cardiff-based Graig Ship Management has appointed Ian Morgan as chief executive officer. Ian takes over from current ceo John Arkell, who is retiring shortly following almost five years as the driving force behind GSM’s growth.
Ian joined GSM in 1996 when he was seconded to Shanghai as a newbuilding supervisor on the series of Confidence vessels building for Graig at Zhonghua Shipyard, before returning to the Cardiff office in the position of technical superintendent. In July 2006 Ian was appointed fleet technical manager and in July this year rose to the position of general manager and director of GSM.
“We are confident Ian will rise to the challenge of his new key role with the Group, and his strong technical background will be especially beneficial as we continue to innovate our range of newbuilding vessels,” says Hugh Williams, ceo of the Graig Group.
Graig has successfully supervised the building of over 100 ships of different types at yards in Asia. It is currently supervising the building of 27 Diamond 53 and 10 Diamond 34 future-proof bulk carriers in Vietnam alone, for itself and its partners, plus other vessels in India and China.
The Graig Group is a broad-based international shipowning and shipping services group which provides innovative solutions for newbuilding supervision, ship management, ship design, ship owning and ship finance. Working from offices in Cardiff, London, Shanghai, Hamburg and Hanoi it is currently building ships for itself and other owners and operators at yards in China, Vietnam and India and managing an active portfolio of modern vessels.
