Commander Robert Walsh has joined the Division of Graduate & Continuing Education

BUZZARDS BAY, MA -- Massachusetts Maritime Academy is pleased to announce Commander Robert Walsh has joined the Division of Graduate & Continuing Education as Director of Marine Education and Training. Commander Walsh comes to Marine Education & Training with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation from Massachusetts Maritime Academy and is licensed as Third Mate, Oceans Any Gross Tons, First Mate, Oceans 1600 Gross Tons, Master, 100 Gross Tons, and Master of Towing. Robert transitioned from the Marine Operations Department at MMA, where he specialized in teaching upper-level courses (Tugs and Towing, Applied Shiphandling and Vessel Stability) to students aspiring to become Merchant Marine Deck and Navigation Officers. As part of the Division of Graduate and Continuing Education, the Marine Education & Training department serves the commercial and recreational fisherman, the boating industry and members of the community through workshops and seminars. The program provides a variety of courses at low cost as a result of its support by the MIT Sea Grant Program. The department also offers professional and custom training through the Center for Maritime Training (CMT). CMT caters to professional mariners seeking licensure, upgrades and renewals through US Coast Guard-approved courses and custom training offerings. The Center for Maritime Training operates the only USCG-approved Advanced Shiphandling in Manned Models training program. Commander Walsh is excited to join the Division of Graduate and Continuing Education and looks forward to building new educational opportunities and programs for the recreational boating public and professional maritime community.
