A Century for SharpEye™

Thursday, July 2, 2009
V. Ships Norway has ordered the hundredth SharpEye™ unit to be produced by Kelvin Hughes – for fitting on-board the Nordic Saturn, a Suezmax crude oil carrier owned by Nordic American Tanker Shipping Ltd. SharpEyeTM represents a step change in commercial radar development and brings military grade performance to the commercial marine marketplace for the first time. It enables more information to be extracted from the radar returns, making navigation safer. It also provides greatly improved target detection allowing small fast-moving targets, such as pirate vessels, to be more easily spotted. Stale Finsrud, Kelvin Hughes’ Sales Manager for Norway, says that Superintendent Bjorn Vargset made the decision to use SharpEye™ because of its reliability and high performance. “The S-band system is solid state, removing the risk of magnetron failure, so the SharpEye™ transceiver is always available. It is easy to operate, with excellent display features and it makes navigation safer, especially in heavy rain or rough seas.” Kathe Gulbrandsen, Purchaser at V. Ships Norway, was impressed with the fast delivery and competitive price and is pictured here celebrating the Kelvin Hughes SharpEye™ century with Stale Finsrud.
