Articles Anniversary - 125 years “German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries Association” (VSM)

The German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries Association (Verband für Schiffbau und Meerestechnik e.V. VSM) finds its origin in the "Verein Deutscher Schiffswerften“ (Association of German Shipyards), which was founded on 29th December 1884. With the VSM celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, Schiff&Hafen, as the official media forum for the VSM, will be commemorating the occasion with an extensive supplement (issue 12/09) on the history and development of the VSM and its significance today.
Founder members of the "Verein Deutscher Schiffswerften“ include Howaldt in Kiel, Blohm & Voss Hamburg and the Flensburger Schiffbaugesellschaft. The association was soon acknowledged by the government and establishment as the authoritative representation of the German shipbuilding industry and throughout the years it has been a driving force behind regulations and guidelines on classifications, materials, ship section and profile design, even a framework on terms of supply and delivery.
