A NEW ERA IN MARITIME COMMUNICATIONS STARTS AS SAILORR FLEETBROADBAND HITS THE MARKET
Wednesday, October 3, 2007
Thrane & Thrane's SAILORR FleetBroadband - a step into the future!
The next generation satcom systems, SAILOR 500 and 250 FleetBroadband are now available to order. The first Type Approval is expected for Mid November 2007, with terminals in the market shortly after.
"Developed in close co-operation with Inmarsat, the SAILOR 500 and 250 FleetBroadband systems harness the power of the next generation of Inmarsat satellites for a multitude of safety and operational benefits. By providing reliable broadband speeds FleetBroadband will change the way we communicate and work at sea," comments Casper Jensen, Manager, Maritime Global Marketing, Thrane & Thrane A/S.
As a key player in the implementation of the ground based infrastructure for Inmarsat FleetBroadband, Thrane & Thrane is way ahead of the game in the introduction of FleetBroadband terminals on vessels. SAILOR 500 and 250 FleetBroadband systems are the first to market and arrive as fully fledged systems, backed by Thrane & Thrane's vast experience and market leadership within the current generation Inmarsat Fleet system.
SAILOR FleetBroadband represents a quantum leap in terms of marine satellite transmission speeds. SAILOR 500 provides speeds up to 432 kbps with ISDN capability, which is almost seven times faster than current generation
Fleet77 systems. It utilises an antenna smaller than the mid-range Fleet55, with a diameter of less than 60cm, weighing just 16 kg.
SAILOR 250 FleetBroadband offers data speeds up to 284 kbps with an antenna that's smaller than today's Fleet33 system. With a diameter less than 30 cm and weighing in at just 5 kg this compact system is ideal for smaller commercial vessels or private yachts.
The SAILOR 500 and 250 FleetBroadband systems enable vessels to become part of an operator's LAN with several key features not previously
possible:
- IP connection for e-mail and internet/intranet access, including secure VPN ISDN (SAILOR 500 FleetBroadband only)
- Voice and data simultaneously
- Small size hardware
Simultaneously having access to voice and high-speed data services on a global basis will revolutionize data access at sea. ECDIS information, online weather data, route-planning and crew calling can all be undertaken at the same time, greatly increasing information efficiency onboard.
