MARIS Integrates ADMIRALTY Vector Chart Service

Published Sep 18, 2014 2:15 PM by The Maritime Executive

Maritime Information Systems AS has announced that with the approval from United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO), the ADMIRALTY Vector Chart Service (AVCS) is now integrated into its Pay As You Sail (PAYS) services. The permission of use follows formal type approval for the MARIS PAYS solution earlier this year from DNV GL, the world’s largest class society by ships registered.

Norway-based MARIS, whose renowned Master Bridge Assistant (MBA) software has put the company at the forefront of innovation for several years, now offers the PAYS option via any ECDIS system, bringing the AVCS folio for PAYS to the navigator’s fingertips for voyage planning.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer a PAYS solution based on the acclaimed AVCS charts from UKHO,” says Kathrine B. Holth, MARIS Manager of Digital Services. “AVCS offers the most comprehensive global coverage, alongside the ADMIRALTY Information Overlay (AIO) for additional passage planning information. These important features of the service are particularly appreciated by our customers.” The MARIS PAYS service with AVCS will be delivered through MARIS MBA chart management software. “This is a combination that our customers have been awaiting eagerly,” says Holth.

Jon Evang Larsen, MARIS Sales & Service of Digital Service, adds: “PAYS helps to ease the growing administrative burden on the shoulders of modern navigators. We believe this is in line with the spirit behind mandatory ECDIS, which was always about improving safety and efficiency.”

“The major benefit for MARIS ECDIS users will be the full automation of chart handling. From the time the user activates his or her route on the ECDIS to the final destination, all permits and charts are updated automatically. As a result IT security on-board will be greatly strengthened; the days of running around with USB sticks are over” says Larsen

In conjunction with this launch, MARIS has also taken the opportunity to develop a brand new user inerface, giving the ship-owner unrestricted access to the cost and location information concerning vessels in service from tablets or mobile phones.
