INTERTANKO Press Conference
Building a long-term strategy and shaping a viable future for tanker shipping through a collective effort to find practical solutions to the tanker industry's problems.
Times are tough for tanker shipping, with freight returns often failing to cover basic daily operating costs.
If we, the tanker owners, are to keep oil flowing safely and efficiently, how can we go about improving our ability to do that in the future?
INTERTANKO has been bringing tanker industry players together
· to highlight the risks involved in trading tankers at below basic operating costs,
· to raise awareness of the problems which might arise from doing so,
· to highlight market imbalances which have been eroding charter terms, which distort vetting practices, and which affect the way the tanker market works.
Discussions between our Members and top-level industry figures from many different sectors are looking at
· how the tanker market is working,
· how and why has it changed,
· what this means for owners.
They will identify the challenges threatening tanker industry sustainability.
They will look at where we are heading and ask where we want to be.
They will make a start at building a long-term strategy.
The climax of these discussions will be during INTERTANKO's annual Tanker Event in Oslo.
We want to tell you about some of the outcomes of these discussions, about shaping a viable future for tanker shipping, about a collective effort to find practical solutions to the tanker industry's problems.
