Published Sep 2, 2014 12:03 PM by The Maritime Executive

A call for papers has been published online for the sixth ‘Engine as a Weapon’ Symposium (EAAW VI), titled Total Ship Integration?

The conference, organised by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), provides a unique opportunity for experts in combat and platform system design to explore integration challenges.

The two-day symposium, held at the University of Bath next June, will unite specialists from the world of weapons and marine systems and will aim to influence current and future naval design.

Delegates include international navies, naval procurement officials at all levels along with commercial attendance from prime contractors to SMEs, together with specialists from academia.

Experts wishing to contribute to the content of the cutting-edge symposium have until Friday 10 October 2014 to submit abstracts. The conference will cover integration issues in three areas: power and propulsion technology and topology; weapon and combat system design and development and total ship integration.

Royal Navy Commander and EAAW VI Chairman, Matt Bolton, said: “By inviting subject matter experts to present their ideas, we guarantee the symposium leads the rest of the world in terms of relevance and knowledge. EAAW VI will build on the success of five previous events and continue to provide a forum for information exchange and much needed analysis and debate.”

Past conference speakers have included experts from the Ministry of Defence, BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce, Frazer Nash, Royal Netherlands Navy, Babcock, L-3 Communications, GE Power and MBDA UK.

Abstract submissions should be between 250 – 500 words and cover topics including the future of combat systems and high-energy weapons, the opportunities provided by advanced platform and marine systems, and the latest technology for total ship integration.

The closing date for synopses is Friday 10 October 2014. Authors will be informed of the final programme by the end of November 2014. Selected authors will be invited to submit their final paper of up to 4,000 words with relevant illustrations by 6 March 2015.
