•MacGREGOR benefits from booming bulk market
MacGREGOR has secured crane orders for 74 bulk carriers in China and India, which will see the company delivering its cargo handling expertise to yards until 2011
During the second quarter of this year, the MacGREGOR Group -- part of the Cargotec Corporation -- has been awarded 276 GLB-crane orders for bulker carriers with a total value of approximately €75 million.
“The market has experienced a dramatic increase in interest for handy, handymax and supramax sized bulkers,” said Lars Söderström, Sales Manager, Bulk Ships. “There are several reasons behind the booming market such as increasing charters rates, dramatic increase in demand for raw materials and energy products, as well as a high average age of the existing fleet.”
In total, MacGREGOR has managed to secure cargo handling crane orders for 74 bulk carriers in China and India. The Chinese market has been the most active and counts for a total of 62 ships at five different ship yards.
The deliveries are scheduled to start in early 2008 and will continue until the latter half of 2011. Most of the deliveries will consist of standard GLB-type cranes in the range of 30 to 36 tonnes SWL.

•MacGREGOR enjoys continued success in container feeder segment
With a focus of quality and performance, MacGREGOR will deliver cargo handling cranes for new container feeder contracts at Wenchong shipyard, China
The MacGREGOR Group’s Crane division has secured an order for 48 shipboard container handling cranes from the Wenchong Shipyard in China. The contract is worth approximately €17 million and the cranes will be delivered shipset by shipset between early 2009 and early 2012.
The cranes have been specified for twelve 2,800 TEU container feeders for undisclosed interests. Each vessel will be geared with three wire luffing GL-type cranes and one cylinder luffing LC-type crane located aft. The wire luffing cranes are rated at 4528.2/4030.8 and the cylinder luffing crane at 3527/3029.5.
Co-operation between Wenchong and MacGREGOR started in the 1990s and MacGREGOR, together with its Chinese manufacturing partner CSSC - Nanjing Lüzhou Machine Company Ltd, has delivered more than 140 cargo handling cranes to the yard over the years.
“We have been working closely with the Wenchong shipyard for 15 years and it makes us proud to announce that our expertise can once again be called upon for this important project,” says Kenneth Mellin, sales manager, MacGREGOR Crane division. “With our partner Lüzhou Machine Company, we will make sure that we fulfill the yard’s expectations in terms of quality and performance.”
