BVs classed fleet grew by 934 ships and 7.3m gt, to end the year on 7,919 ships totalling 58.2m gt. The average fleet age fell to 15.8 years, and detention rates globally fell again by 10 per cent. Chittagong/Bangladesh, 25 March 2008 - Bangladesh shipyard Highspeed has won an order of eight 4,500 dwt multi-purpose vessels by Dutch shipping company Hollander Schultens. The ships will be built to Germanischer Lloyd class. Construction of the vessels with ice class will start in December 2008. The delivery of all units is scheduled to be completed by April 2012. Salisbury, MD Chesapeake Shipbuilding launched the tug Sassafras this weekend, the first of four Vane Brothers 94-foot, 3,000hp tugs the shipyard is building. The launch was a side launch that was called perfect. Vane Brothers of Baltimore, MD recently exercised options to build 2 more tugs at the Salisbury, MD shipyard. Two Caterpillar 3512 engines will power the tugs with 6:1 reverse reduction gears to conventional twin shafts. These new tugs have upper and lower pilot houses.
