Two fishermen died last night of hypothermia after their fishing boat collided with a cargo ship in the waters between Jutland and Zealand.
The men’s 42-foot fishing boat sank while the 180-foot Swedish flagged cargo ship suffered only a gash in its hull.
Crew from the cargo ship, VINGA, pulled one of the men from the water after almost an hour. A local search team rescued the other man some forty minutes later. The father and son, aged 72 and 43, were rushed to the hospital where it became clear that hypothermia had set in. They were pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.
Local coast guard is investigating the incident. The VINGA is owned and operated by LS Shipping AB of Sweden.
