Published May 18, 2012 3:33 PM by The Maritime Executive

The American Merchant Marine Veterans (AMMV) announces their 26th Annual Business Meeting and Reunion Convention, June 4 thru 7, at The Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS), Linthicum Maryland.

The AMMV formed in 1984 to gain Veterans status, recognition and benefits for Merchant Mariners who served their Country providing direct support to the U.S. Armed Services and to address issues in support of active U.S. Merchant Mariners. The AMMV welcomes U.S. Navy Armed Guard, all Merchant Mariners (Active and retired) - their wives and widows to join us at this convention and to consider becoming members. Descendants are also welcome to join as associate members.

The June 4th convention kick-off event will be a visit to the WWII Museum Ship John W. Brown (pictured in thumb image). Other events include business sessions, a Ladies Luncheon, two evening gatherings with entertainment, and, to close the convention,  a special excursion to the WWII Memorial in Washington DC on June 7th.

Business topics include Kings Point Academy status and future; recognition and Veterans status for Mariners who participated in armed conflicts post WWII; Just Compensation for WWII Mariners who were denied GI Bill benefits; implementation of new Regional boundaries and election of Regional Vice Presidents; membership retention and recruitment of active Mariners thru use of the internet and social media.
