The top 19 per cent of the most valuable of the world’s commercial cargo vessels equate in value to the remaining 81 per cent. Although the highest valued vessels are all Qatar’s QFlex LNG ships, it is Greece that features highest in the top 19. Greece is a maritime nation by tradition, as shipping is arguably the oldest form of occupation of the Greeks and has been a key element of Greek economic activity since ancient times. Recent statistics show that Greek companies have over 22 per cent of the world's tankers and 16 per cent of the world's bulk carriers (in dwt). About the same again for both tankers and bulkers is on order.
