Passenger Reported Overboard on Costa Classica

Tvi24 of Portugal reports that Costa Classica has been searching for a passenger that may have gone overboard as the ship was sailing from Casablanca in Morocco to Portugal.

Early reports say that a man aged 70 from Germany could be missing.

Cruise Junkie reports that eight passengers or crew have gone overboard so far this year on cruise and passenger vessels around the world. Total annual numbers for the last five years have ranged from 18 to 25.

The International Cruise Victims Association (ICV), a non-profit founded by family and friends who have lost loved ones at sea, hopes to raise awareness of safety considerations on cruise ships. Consultant Jamie Barnett claims alcohol to be a major factor and says that falling overboard can happen accidentally. He recommends:

1. Don't sit on the balcony railings to get that perfect picture.
2. Be careful about how much you and your friends drink.
3. And always use the buddy system.
