Marine Industries Association of South Florida launched Marine Industry Day. The event was to celebrate builders, marinas, sales and other local businesses in South Florida that generate in excess of $7 billion for Broward County and provide employment for 90,000 skilled workers.

Marine Industries Association of South Florida Executive Director, Philip Purcell, said:

“Marine Industry Day (MID) was an opportunity for the Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF), Ft. Lauderdale Yacht Broker’s Association (FYBA), the US Superyacht Association (USSA), and Young Professionals in Yachting (YPY) to work together to recognize the 90,000+ marine workers who generate $7 billion in economic activity in Broward County annually.”

“MID began with an economic and education forum on 6/11, which incorporated Broward College, Nova, South Broward High School, and three industry leaders. The day segued to Bahia Mar where Mayor Jack Seiler recognized the day with a proclamation.”

“The Social on the River was the culmination of the celebration, and was hosted by volunteers, led by Christine Battles, Chair of the event, and Office Administrator of Advanced Mechanical Enterprises. An estimated 2,000 attended to enjoy live music and interactive marine activities. It was also a fantastic platform for members, and workers to network together and with the general public. This day would not have been possible without the enthusiasm and unwavering dedication of our committee members, sponsors, participants, and volunteers.”

Christine Battles, who chaired this event, said: “The Social on the River is the first of many annual MID celebrations that will honor the tri-county marine industries and its skilled workers for their outstanding contributions to the local economy. Even more importantly, it served as an educational platform to engage and educate the younger generation who are the future of this industry. I am honored that I was asked to be a part of this special day, from the very beginning, until it’ very successful end."

Proclaimed by the City of Fort Lauderdale, on Wednesday June 11, 2014 as the official Marine Industry Day, the event brought out the maritime industry's workforce in Broward county's number one economic driver. The diverse community of builders, marinas, sales, service and support account for $7 billion and provide employment for over 90 thousand skilled workers. We can't wait until #MarineIndustryDay2015!
