Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS), the world’s leading maritime services provider, has secured a significant offshore logistics services project in Tanzania from China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau (CPPB) and Anglo Eastern Ship Management. Under the contract, ISS will support the construction of a prestigious $3.2 billion deep water gas pipeline linking the Mnazi Bay gas field to Dar es Salaam.

The high capacity, 532km gas pipeline represents a major national infrastructure project for Tanzania and is a key driver in the country’s planned economic growth. It will run from Mnazi Bay, Mtwara and Songo Songo in Kilwa District, to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s largest city.  The pipeline is set to supply power stations generating 3,900 MW of electricity, as well as connecting commercial and domestic users in several major cities.

CPPB, the engineering, procurement and construction contractor, and Anglo Eastern, the fleet managers, selected ISS in the knowledge that it is best placed in the region to support such complex offshore projects.  The contract includes the agency and husbandry of highly specialized vessels, including a unique custom built pipe laying craft which features a 1600 ton crane and accommodation for 230 construction workers. The Crew Logistics Services division of ISS is assisting with crew visa and work permit formalities, and airport transfers to the vessels.

TS Mahesh - General Manager of ISS Tanzania, said: “We have built a reputation for effectively supporting one-of-a-kind offshore projects and were delighted to be approached by CPPB and Anglo Eastern.  Given our breadth of experience, we are able to support the project in a number of diverse areas.  We look forward to working as partner on this project, which is due for completion in December 2014.”
