Hurricane Sets Stena Line Ferry Adrift

Tugboats had to recover a Stena Line ferry in Belfast after a severe weather snapped its moorings, setting it adrift.

The Stena Superfast VIII drifted from its berth on Tuesday as traces of Hurricane Gonzalo hit Northern Ireland.

After the tugs helped maneuver the ferry back onto the berth, passengers were then able to disembark at the Stena Line terminal. There were 18 passengers and 55 crew on board.

Afternoon sailings were cancelled, but no damage to vessel or berth has been reported.

MS Stena Superfast VIII is a fast Ro-Pax ferry operated by Stena Line between Belfast and Cairnryan.
